The COVID-19 Control Working Group issued Circular Letter 1/2023, announcing the country’s transition to endemic status. This means that there is no longer an official requirement to wear protective masks or present a certificate of vaccination for domestic and foreign travel.

In order to maximize the Indonesian economy and facilitate the transition to COVID-19 endemicity, the COVID-19 Task Force has relaxed its containment policy by issuing Letter (SE) No. 1 of 2023 regarding compliance with COVID-19 measures during the transition to endemicity,” said Professor Viku, spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, in a statement on Saturday, June 10.

The new provisions came into effect immediately upon publication on June 9, 2023. The task force called on all organizations and ministries involved in tourism, hosting public events, and conducting large-scale activities to fully cooperate in implementing the new rules and to discard any previous regulations that conflict with the updated guidelines.

The official circular outlined the following guidelines:

For individuals:

  • It is recommended to continue receiving Covid-19 vaccinations until the second booster dose or fourth dose, especially for individuals at high risk of contracting the virus.
  • If you are healthy and not at risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19, you are allowed not to wear a mask.
  • If you are unwell or at risk for Covid-19, it is recommended to continue wearing a mask before and during travel and public events.
  • It is advised to carry hand sanitizer and/or use soap and running water to regularly wash hands, particularly after coming into contact with frequently touched surfaces.
  • For individuals who are unwell or at risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19, it is recommended to maintain distance or avoid crowded places to prevent transmission.
  • It is advised to continue using the SATUSEHAT health monitoring app.

All managers, operators of transportation facilities, public institutions, and organizers of major events, in collaboration with local authorities, are encouraged to:

  • Continue protecting the public through preventive measures and advocacy to control the transmission of Covid-19.
  • Continue supervising, directing, monitoring, and enforcing measures to control the transmission of Covid-19.

The Task Force will continue to monitor the situation’s development and make necessary adjustments to the Covid-19 regulations as the transition to endemic status progresses. It is important to note that some or all of the restrictions may be reinstated if the situation worsens.
