What is the Visa A1 Indonesia?

Note that the A1 Visa is different from the Visa on Arrival, which is the B1 Visa. The A1 Visa is an exemption that allows for a single entry into Indonesia, perfect for those looking to:

  • Travel and explore Indonesia’s diverse landscapes and vibrant cultures.
  • Visit family or friends residing in the country.
  • Attend meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions (MICE), seminars, or similar events.
  • Transit through Indonesia on your way to other international destinations.

This arrangement grants you a stay of up to 30 days, starting from your date of arrival. Best of all, there’s no cost (IDR 0) for this visa exemption, and you don’t need a sponsor to apply!

Important Considerations:

Non-Extendable: The 30-day stay permit is non-extendable and cannot be converted into any other type of stay permit. Plan your trip accordingly to ensure you depart within the allowed timeframe.

Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Return or Onward Ticket: You must present a return ticket or an onward ticket to another country. This requirement is waived only for crew members who are stopping to join their ship and continue their journey to another country.

Travel Document Restrictions: This visa exemption is not available for individuals without citizenship or those holding travel documents other than national passports (e.g., temporary passports, emergency passports, titre du voyage, certificate of identity, laissez passer, or other equivalent documents).

No Work or Business Activities: Foreigners with a stay permit from an A1 visa exemption are not permitted to sell goods or services, or receive salary, wages, or compensation for work or business from individuals or corporations in Indonesia.

How to Apply for the A1 Visa Indonesia

You have two convenient options to secure your A1 Visa Exemption:

On Arrival: Simply present your valid passport (at least 6 months validity) and your return or onward ticket to the immigration officer at the counter upon your arrival in Indonesia.

Pre-Arrival (Online): For a smoother and potentially faster entry experience, you can apply online through the official Indonesian immigration e-visa website: evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Fill out the form and upload the required documents electronically. Upon approval, you will receive an electronic entry sign, which also functions as your stay permit and can be used for all autogates at immigration border controls, saving you time at the airport!
