Indonesia Introduces Visa-Free Entry for Citizens of Belarus and Kazakhstan

Indonesia has updated its list of countries eligible for visa-free entry under the Bebas Visa Kunjungan programme. Citizens of Belarus and Kazakhstan are now officially included.

This means they can enter Indonesia for short visits without applying for a visa in advance or paying for a Visa on Arrival.

What Is Bebas Visa Kunjungan?

Bebas Visa Kunjungan, or BVK, is Indonesia’s visa-free entry scheme for citizens of selected countries.
It allows travellers to stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days for purposes such as:

  • tourism;
  • visiting friends or relatives;
  • attending meetings, conferences or exhibitions;
  • transit to another country.

The permit is issued free of charge upon arrival. No sponsor is required.

How Long Can Visitors Stay?

Visa-free entry is valid for a maximum of 30 days from the date of arrival.
The permit cannot be extended or converted into another type of visa or residence permit while in Indonesia.
Travellers planning to stay for more than 30 days should choose another visa type in advance. For example, a Visa on Arrival is initially valid for 30 days and can generally be extended once for another 30 days.

Entry Requirements

Citizens of Belarus and Kazakhstan must present:

  • a passport valid for at least six months;
  • a return ticket or a ticket to another country.

Immigration officers may also request additional information about the purpose and duration of the trip.

Can Visitors Work Under Visa-Free Entry?

No. Bebas Visa Kunjungan does not permit employment or paid commercial activity in Indonesia.
Visitors cannot work for an Indonesian company, receive local income or sell goods and services. A suitable visa or KITAS is required for employment, long-term remote work or other regulated activities.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

The visa-free entry list currently includes:
Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Timor-Leste, Suriname, Colombia, Türkiye, Brazil, Peru, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Hong Kong and Macao are also included as separate administrative territories.

Visa-Free Entry vs Visa on Arrival

The main advantage of Bebas Visa Kunjungan is that it is free. However, it offers less flexibility than a Visa on Arrival.

Condition Visa-Free Entry Visa on Arrival
Initial stay Up to 30 days Up to 30 days
Fee Free Paid
Extension Not available One 30-day extension
Maximum stay 30 days 60 days

Visa-free entry is therefore best suited for travellers who plan to stay in Indonesia for less than one month and do not need an extension.

What Has Changed for Belarusian and Kazakh Citizens?

Citizens of Belarus and Kazakhstan can now visit Bali and other parts of Indonesia for up to 30 days without paying a visa fee.
The change simplifies short-term travel and reduces the number of formalities before departure. However, travellers should carefully choose the correct entry option if they plan to stay longer, work or conduct business in Indonesia.
The information is current as of July 2026. Entry rules may change, so travellers are advised to check the latest requirements before departure.
