Would you like to relocate to Bali and live here for a while? Come with your family, start your own business, or find a job here? Check out our quick guide to the Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) you can get in Indonesia below.

WHAT IS ITAS?

ITAS (Izin Tinggal Terbatas) is an Indonesian Limited Stay Permit that can be issued to foreigners subject to certain conditions.

It used to be called KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas). Due to the fact that now all documents are issued online and no more physical card (KARTU) as before, a limited stay permit is called just ITAS.

Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) can be issued to:

  1. Foreign Investors (PMA owners)
  2. Foreigners working in Indonesia
  3. Foreigners (and their children) legally married to an Indonesian citizen or dependents (spouse and children) of ITAS holder
  4. Retired foreign citizens
  5. Foreigners who make a positive contribution to the Indonesian economy
  6. Foreigners who officially enrolled in an educational institution or accepted into an educational program.

What benefits will you get with ITAS?

  • Multiple entry permit during ITAS validity
  • Possibility to open a bank account
  • The ability to lease land
  • Possibility to get a driver’s license and buy a car or motorbike
  • Discount for a medical assistance + Government Insurance BPJS
  • Expat status and the local price for tourist attractions
  • The ability to apply for permanent residence ITAP (for certain type of ITAS only)

Types of ITAS in Indonesia

There are seven types of ITAS in Indonesia that can be issued for foreigners:

Each type of ITAS has own requirements and conditions to apply for. Let’s look at the main points for each of the ITAS.

Investor ITAS

Investor ITAS is issued to individuals who invest in a PT PMA in Indonesia as a CEO and Commissioner or as a shareholder.

  • Index 313: 1-year Investor ITAS
  • Index 314: 2-year Investor ITAS

Main Requirements:

  1. The investor should have a minimum of 10 billion IDR in shares invested.
  2. The company’s paid up capital should have a minimum of 10 billion IDR, which also has a requirement to declare minimum investment plan 10 billion IDR.

Working ITAS

If you would like to work or obtain income in Indonesia, you have to get a Work Visa ITAS that allows foreign citizens to work officially in the country.

Working ITAS is issued for a specific position in a certain company, so first you need to find a company that will officially hire you and become your visa sponsor.

Work permission can be issued for different periods, can be extendable or not. It depends on different facts. Usually, you can get a work visa for 6 months or 12 months.

You are not able to work in Indonesia without a work permit!

Entertainment ITAS

Entertainment ITAS (sometimes it is called a Freelancer or Artist Itas) is also a Work Permit, but you do not need to have an employer to apply for. In this case, the sponsorship can be provided by our company.

Usually, Entertainment ITAS is issued for 6 months and cannot be extended. So if you want to continue after 6 months, you will need to close your current ITAS and apply for a new one.

Entertainment ITAS can be issued for certain positions only (e.g. DJ, artist, singer)*

Remote Worker ITAS

Remote worker ITAS E33G is issued for 1 year and allows you:

  1. Carry out assignments from overseas company.

✔️ for the same period as ITAS of the spouse**

* ITAS holders can apply for permanent residence ITAP after 2 years of marriage with Indonesian

Retirement ITAS
